It’s not just would-be students who are welcome at this week’s open day on at Birmingham City University.
Young and old alike are being invited to a Sports Fun Day being held at the University’s Doug Ellis Sports Centre in Perry Barr on Saturday 8 October. This fun community event will see teams competing against each other in football, rounders, kho-kho (a traditional Indian game of tag) and quick cricket.
Organiser Jay Patel explains: “We held a similar event last year that was immensely successful, seeing more than 40 people come together to enjoy the day, play sport and make friends. We hope that this week’s event is bigger and better.”
“This year we are looking to raise funds for a local community group and therefore we have invited other towns to come along and take part. The more the merrier!” added Jay.
In addition to the Sports day, visitors to Birmingham City University open day will have the opportunity to find out about courses, meet lecturers and students and view state-of-the-art educational facilities.
Visitors will also be able to choose from a variety of activities including a walking tour of the campus, sitting in a mock criminology lecture delivered by top criminologist, Professor David Wilson and playing on hi-tech games consoles. University staff will also be on hand to explain the topical issue of university fees and funding.
Birmingham City University will be opening its doors to the public for the open days from 10am to 4pm on Friday 7 October and Saturday 8 October across the following campuses: City North (Perry Barr), City South (Edgbaston) for health related courses, Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD) campuses (Gosta Green, School of Jewellery, School of Art, Bournville) and Millennium Point (Birmingham city centre) for technology, engineering and environment-related courses.
