The journal is internationally renowned as the leading publication in its field and each year selects one of its 150,000 members, spanning more than 177 countries worldwide, as its Outstanding Reviewer.

This year Gornal-born Professor Edwards was chosen as the winner having contributed to the journal’s growth, as well as to the work of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Professor Edwards also landed the award in 2019 and has retained the honour for 2020 after making a valuable contribution to the sector.

Speaking after picking up his accolade, Professor Edwards said: "It is a tremendous honour and privilege to win this award for the second consecutive year - I was genuinely humbled by this recognition.

“Such global acknowledgement demonstrates the quality of industrial engagement, teaching and research undertaken within Birmingham City University - work that is conducted at the forefront of practice.

“It also illustrates the tremendous opportunities for local students to study at the University and gain a practice-based qualification as well as go on to become leading figures in their own right - or even become a Professor.

“From my humble background to achieve this global recognition today illustrates that anything is possible if you try hard enough.”

The Dudley Professor is highly regarded across the globe for his research, which includes engineering design, and machinery health and safety.

His expertise has seen him work alongside the UK and US Departments of Defence, various government bodies and named as a Ghanaian Chief in a special ceremony held in Kumasi.
