Birmingham City University is delighted to announce that it will be installing the new Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Michael Wilkes, as its eighteenth Chancellor at a special ceremony to be held on Monday 1 June in the Banqueting Suite at the Council House in Birmingham City Centre.

The event will also recognise the outstanding contribution made to the University by the outgoing Chancellor, Councillor Chauhdry Rashid, during his term of office in 2008/09.

The installation of Councillor Wilkes continues the tradition established in 1992 when the former Birmingham Polytechnic was granted University status and resolved to reflect its commitment to the City by installing the Lord Mayor as its Chancellor.  Birmingham City University is one of only two institutions nationwide to have adopted this unique link with its local region.

The event will be attended by approximately 120 guests comprising senior staff of the University, members of the University's Board of Governors, Honorary Award Holders and members of the local business and education community.
