Professor Clare Mackie will join Birmingham City University as Deputy Vice-Chancellor in January 2018, with responsibility for the University’s academic portfolio – including learning, teaching and the experience of students.
Professor Mackie joins from the University of Sussex, where she has been Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) since 2010.

In her current role, Professor Mackie led a major curriculum review with a focus on graduate employability, internationalisation and inclusivity which has delivered more than 50 per cent growth in student numbers and secured high levels of employability by fostering academic excellence and securing high levels of student satisfaction.
Prior to Sussex, Professor Mackie was Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Kent. Her area of academic expertise is Pharmacy, and she originally moved to Kent to establish a Joint School of Pharmacy across the Universities of Kent and Greenwich. She has also advised a number of Government bodies in England and Scotland and the World Health Organisation in Pharmacy matters.
