Students and staff at Birmingham City University (BCU) were served up free coffee and other hot drinks by the Birmingham Bears on Thursday 11 May, as the Edgbaston-based cricket team gears up for the start of the Vitality Blast T20 season.
The Bears have been taking their coffee van to sites around the West Midlands to help build excitement ahead of the new campaign, which begins on Saturday 20 May.
The trip to BCU’s City Centre campus on Thursday was also a chance to celebrate the blossoming relationship between the university and the Bears.
BCU is the team’s main collar sponsor for the T20 Blast and also sponsors the shirts that Warwickshire players are donning during the LV=Insurance County Championship.
The university continues to work closely with both the Bears and Warwickshire on placement opportunities for its students, who have been able to gain valuable experience in sports science, performance analysis, media and marketing.
The tour was also a chance to remind the public about the Bears’ commitment to sustainability, given that the shirts the players will wear are made from recycled coffee beans.
The Bears got off to a winning start on Saturday beating Yorkshire Vikings in their season opener at Edgbaston.
