Summer Shows at Birmingham School of Acting (BSA), part of Birmingham City University, kick off later this month with a play set in the 17th century.
Starting on 22 May, The Clearing tells the story of a young couple from disparate backgrounds and depicts how their different upbringings and cultural backgrounds affect the decisions they make when confronted with oppressive rule.
The Clearing is the first event in the University’s ‘Inspired’ festival programme, a series of summer performances, exhibitions and workshops highlighting the wealth of creative talent being nurtured and developed in the region.
The BSA Summer Shows continue in June with The Duchess of Malfi, The Bright and Bold Design and The Superheroes – a theatrical and digital experience for the whole family, using storytelling, song, music, dance and animation.
The Duchess of Malfi is a love story of a Duchess who marries beneath her class while The Bright and Bold Design explores the true nature of the art of politics, and the politics of art.
The Summer Show performances take place at the Crescent Theatre, The Old Rep Theatre and mac Birmingham, with tickets costing between £2.50 and £7.50. For more information and to book tickets, click here. For more information on the University’s ‘Inspired’ festival, visit www.bcu.ac.uk/Inspired.
