Beethoven series to raise money for music prize

International acclaimed pianist, Peter Donohoe CBE, will be performing all of Beethoven’s sonatas at Birmingham Conservatoire to raise money for a student music prize.

He will be performing eight recitals, which will consist of the sonatas in order of composition, to raise money for the Peter Donohoe Prize for Young Pianists. The first concert will take place on Sunday 21 November and the series will end on Sunday 6 February. The series is a rare opportunity to hear the complete series of sonatas and is made even more unusual by the fact that they will be performed in order of composition, giving the listener the opportunity to hear the development of Beethoven’s work.

Peter is donating his time and all profits from tickets sold will be put forward to scholarships awarded to outstanding keyboard students. The Conservatoire, which is part of Birmingham City University, has set itself the goal of raising £15,000 during the series of Beethoven concerts.
Peter Donohoe has links with Birmingham, having played with the CBSO. This link with the CBSO continued when he played at Simon Rattle's inaugural concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra following the conductor’s departure from the CBSO. Peter Donohoe has received a number of accolades during his career and this year was awarded the CBE.

The concerts are being held at the Recital Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire in the city. Further details and ticket information can be found at birminghamboxoffice.com or by calling 0121 303 2323.
