Birmingham City University students were given an amazing opportunity to see live radio in action as BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Tim Westwood came to Birmingham City Students’ Union to broadcast a show live from Lounge|North.
The hip-hop legend is touring the country as part of his daily BBC Radio 1Xtra show, which was broadcast nationally on the digital radio network and exclusively on Birmingham City Students’ Union’s Scratch Radio on campus. Birmingham’s Favourite Student Station played host to the star BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ for his programme on last week, which saw the Students’ Union bar on City North campus packed for the broadcast.
Alongside the broadcast, Tim Westwood and his production team from BBC Radio 1Xtra gave an educational question and answer session for Birmingham School of Media students and those involved in the student union’s Media Groups.
Dan Richards, Scratch Radio Assistant Station Manager, said: “The opportunity to see a live national radio show put together and broadcast from the students’ union bar and to have the chance to quiz the producers, outside broadcast staff and presenters was a real money-can't-buy moment for anyone with an interest in the media or music.
"It was inspirational and I think everyone who came really got a huge amount from it."
