A student mentoring scheme at the School of Media has been shortlisted for a prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Award.
The Level Up mentoring programme is one of the six finalists in the Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development category, which sees the University's work recognised alongside projects from the University of Sheffield and the University of Nottingham.
Level Up is an online, interactive, pre-arrival programme which is designed and delivered by students. The aim of the project is to help new students to feel a part of the University, the initiative has already helped to boost progression and retention rates in the faculty. As part of the project, Level Up mentors are assigned to new students who help new recruits to acclimatise to their new homes.
Kerry Gough, Senior Lecturer in Learning and Teaching Practice, said: "We are so pleased that the Level Up programme has received this sort of national recognition, to be named among the top six leadership development programmes in the UK is a fantastic achievement. Thank you to all of the staff and students involved for their hard work."
The THE Awards are widely recognised as the Oscars of the higher education sector, the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Thursday 26 November.
