A Birmingham City University student is celebrating after being announced as The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Midlands Student of the Year.

Hannah Dixon, 21 from Cwmbran in South Wales, is the University’s 8th consecutive winner of the CIPR award issued by the industry’s professional body which promotes excellence in PR and communications across the UK.

Judges made the decision based on Hannah’s final year project as part of her Media and Communication degree course at Birmingham School of Media, part of Birmingham City University.

“My project included establishing my own PR agency called Cwtch PR, working with three clients and providing up to date PR and marketing tools to generate as much positive coverage across local media,” said Hannah.

“I gained coverage in local newspapers and online as well as establishing business connections and media relationships for the clients and for my business Cwtch PR.”

The judges from the CIPR Midlands Committee praised Hannah for her approach to her project, her skill in media relations and social media and her commitment to monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of the PR she delivered.

On being announced as the winner of this year’s award, Hannah said: “I’m delighted to have won this award, it’s the perfect way to end my three years at Birmingham City University.

“It’s really nice to be recognised for all of the hard work that I put into my final project. I’d like to thank all the staff at Birmingham City University as I think that certain aspects of the course have really made me stand out from other PR graduates.”

Hannah will receive her award at a CIPR awards ceremony on 8 November.
