Four final-year Media Production students recently won a Royal Television Society (RTS) Midlands Student Award in the factual category for their gambling documentary.

Aaron Badhan, Dario Liguori, Abdul Jalfar and Mohammed Ahmed’s award-winning documentary is titled A Gambler’s Gambit. The stylishly produced film explores the little-known phenomenon of private, invitation only gambling evenings.

The documentary was also nominated in the Craft – Editing category.

Judges said it was a very close shout between the gambling documentary created for the group’s second-year TV Narratives module and Position Number 1, a film made by final-year Media Production student Scott Powell for his final major project, supervised by Media Production Lecturer Emily Rushmer.

BCU Chancellor Sir Lenny Henry commented on the strengths of A Gambler’s Gambit in his final address to the audience, which was played on screen at the awards ceremony.

Course Director of BA Media Production Dharmesh Rajput said: "I’m very proud of our Media Production students for their efforts and award win."
