DJs from KissFM, Radio 1, and other radio stations will join a public panel discussion at the University on 7 May.
The panel discussion, organised by students from Birmingham School of Media, will revolve around the early days of urban music radio and new technologies.
It will also focus on how to stay relevant in today’s society and what is still motivating the early pioneers.

The event will also include the book launch of Master of the Airwaves, which covers the rise of UK urban, underground music radio, compiled by original Kiss FM DJs/Broadcasters Dave VJ and Lindsay Wesker.
The book features a vast array of contributors including Jazzie B OBE, David Rodigan MBE, Norman Jay MBE and Trevor Nelson MBE. Trevor Nelson MBE from Radio 1/1Xtra said:

'Masters Of The Airwaves, The Rise & Rise Of Underground Radio' will take place on Thursday 7 May from 5.30pm to 8.30pm at Birmingham City University's Parkside Lecture Theatre. Tickets should be booked in advance as the number of seats are limited.
