Faculty of Education, Law and Social Sciences student Susan Nasseri has brought home gold for Birmingham City University at the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) karate championship.

Susan, a final-year LLB (Hons) Law student fought off the competition to be awarded gold in the Women's Intermediate Karate at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield.

Susan balances both national and international competitions around her studies, last year competing in Italy at the World Kickboxing and Karate Association Championships and bringing home two bronze medals and one gold.

Susan said: “I study Law and it can sometimes get a little stressful but the fantastic thing about karate is that as soon as I start practising all my stress seems to dissolve. I study during the day and then practise karate in the evening. To be honest I don’t find fitting karate around my studies difficult because it has now become part of my daily routine.”
