A lecture based on ‘Shakespeare and Jewellery’, will be given at the School of Jewellery on 14 May 2015 by David Roberts, Dean of Arts, Design and Media at Birmingham City University.

Lecture plan:

The speaker explores the question “what part does jewellery play in the works of Shakespeare?” In order to answer it, David Roberts decides to approach the lecture reviewing recent and ancient trends in literary criticism.

Moreover, the representation of precious objects in Renaissance and the use Shakespeare makes of key terms are two central points.

The public talk is free for anyone to attend on 14 May at the School of Jewellery. More details, including start time and how to attend, will be revealed closer to the time.

While most of the focus will be on the Stratford-upon-Avon-born poet, the lecture also explores contemporary authors and how he is distinguished from them.

The talk has been designed so that anyone with an interest in Shakespeare or Jewellery can relate to it.
