Students from the University’s New Technology Institute recently took part in an industry day where they had the opportunity to show off their creations to some of the gaming world’s top professionals.
Students from MA/MSc Video Game Development and MSc Video Game Enterprise and Production created three puzzle platform games for mobile as part of the School’s Gamer Camp programme. This was a seven week course collaborative project designed to simulate indie game development. The games are now published and purchasable on the Google Play Store!
Iain Harrison, one of NTI’s course leaders spoke of the event: “The industry day was designed to allow the students to show off and present their finished games. It also allowed them to show their preliminary findings for the research and development for the PlayStation 4 game they are currently working on.
"We invited all of our current industry partners to the event and we had a very good turnout. Overall, we had 25 industry guests on the day – including representatives from 12 separate game development studios. Our students pitched and presented their mobile games and then had a Q and A session, followed by a separate presentation on Research and Development for their upcoming PS4 game."
A representative from development studio Naturalmotion gave a glowing report of the students’ work and the school itself:
Nick Duncombe, from Playground Games, said about the project:
Iain is very proud of his students’ work and of the way that Gamer Camp is progressing: "I've always been proud of Gamer Camp and today shows why. The teams did amazingly well and the students really excelled themselves."
