Birmingham City University and The Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) are to host an event as part of World Quality Day, examining the tension between the risk appetite of entrepreneurs and the risk aversion of quality professionals.
World Quality Day events aim to promote awareness of quality around the world and to encourage individuals’ development and the prosperity of organisations.
Keynote speaker at the free event at Birmingham City University on Wednesday 21 November, entitled ‘Death by Chocolate; What’s the Risk’, will be Debbie Cadbury. Debbie previously produced the ground-breaking docudrama ‘Seven Wonders of the Industrial World’ and won an Emmy award for her work on BBC Horizon. At the event Debbie will be discussing how quality professionals can learn from history of the great business success of the Cadbury family.
Ian Nield, CEO at Investors in Excellence Limited, will debate 'Compliance v Excellence' with Peter Carroll, Event Organiser and Course Director of the MSc Quality Management course at Birmingham City University. Peter said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for quality professional and business managers to come together to understand the business of quality.”
Also speaking at the event will be Philip Salt, Chief Executive of Salts Healthcare and Steven Shackleford from the Institute of Risk Management, who’ll be discussing the strategic management of risk within the context of quality management.
Former Birmingham City University student Mark Braham, now a Quality Assurance Manager at the AA, will be demonstrating at the event that lean principles can be applied to a mobile workforce.
Confirmed attendees at the event include Jeff Smith, a motivational speaker and author of several bestselling books including 'The KPI Book: The Ultimate Guide to Understanding the Key Performance Indicators of Your Business'.
‘Death by Chocolate; What’s the Risk’ will take place at Birmingham City University’s Millennium Point campus and runs from 1pm until 7.30pm. For more information and to make a booking, visit CQI’s events page.
