Fresher’s week is full of social activities – a chance to make friends and explore your new surroundings. First-years at the School of Engineering, Design and Manufacturing Systems (EDMS) certainly received an exciting welcome with a day of racing at the Birmingham Wheels track!
Every year, EDMS organises a day of buggy racing, drift car racing and car circuit demos for its new arrivals. This year was one of the best –Birmingham Wheels owner Adam Walker impressed students with his stunts and jumps and David Ashman, course director for Mechanical Engineering and Automotive Engineering, joined in a hotly-contested buggy race.
There were lots of steaming cups of tea amongst the excited crowd of students all awaiting their turn on the track. It got very competitive and, as tradition seems to dictate, there was a small crash, leaving engineering technician Dave Phillips to carry out repairs.
We have got some great action shots. You can have a look at these, tag yourself and friends and share them via our official Birmingham City University Facebook page (www.facebook.com/birminghamcityuniversity).
