Birmingham City University and The Higher Education Academy (HEA) are to host a free discussion event in November focusing on the transition from studying computing at school and moving up to university level.
The event on Tuesday 19 November organised by HEA and Birmingham City University's School of Computing, Telecommunications and Networks (CTN) will bring together computing experts, careers advisors and teachers from schools and colleges across the West Midlands to explore the challenges that students often face when progressing to computing studies at university level after studying the subject at school or college.
Dr Thomas Lancaster, Senior Lecturer in Computing at Birmingham City University, said: "Students often struggle with the jump from learning computing in a classroom environment to becoming motivated and independent learners at university. Through our strong links with the HEA, we are looking forward to working with the local educational community to help computing students to achieve their full university potential."
Karen Fraser, Academic Development Officer for the HEA, added: "The HEA are delighted to be working with Birmingham City University again where, for many years, we have had tremendous support in working to enhance the student experience of university."
Birmingham City University's School of CTN were recently awarded one of six bids to deliver training for the government's Computing At School's (CAS) programme, a national scheme aimed at improving the teaching of computing in schools across the UK.
