Birmingham City University has become one of the few institutions in the world to become an Autodesk Training Centre (ATC), offering on-campus training and certification for students.
Autodesk is seen as the flagship for many software applications which lead the digital transformation of the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industries. The Department of Built Environment has been integrating the use of Autodesk Software Applications across different courses including Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Building Surveying and Quantity Surveying. These applications provide graduates with digital skills which enable them to cope in a rapidly transforming industry.
Now, BCU is part of a small group of global universities who are able to directly offer an official Autodesk-endorsed training certificate to students who pass one of the registered modules. Senior Lecturers in Digital Built Environment, Mark Kelly and Dr. Elham Delzendeh are Autodesk certified professionals who will deliver advanced Autodesk training. Students can list the industry-recognised Autodesk certificate on their CV, to stand out among other applicants and boost their employability.
Having Autodesk Training Centre status has created many opportunities for the Built Environment Department over the last 3 years, helping to produce digitally competent built environment graduates, attracting industry and employers. Autodesk has also sponsored events within BCU (e.g. BIM in Birmingham Conference) and also the ASC (Associated Schools of Construction) competition hosted in Salford in November 2019.
The proposal to gain this recognition was led by Dr. Mohammad Mayouf (Senior Lecturer in Digital Built Environment), and in collaboration with the Education Team at Autodesk represented by Mr. Philipp Mueller (Programme Manager for Autodesk Education Experiences).
