Birmingham School of Art and Eastside Projects are seeking applications from contemporary visual artists for the annual Wheatley Fine Art Fellowship.
The £9,000 tax-free stipend fellowship is intended to give a practitioner time and resources to develop new work and ideas alongside staff and students at Birmingham City University’s prestigious Birmingham School of Art.
The successful applicant will be provided with a studio at the School and access to extensive facilities and expertise across the faculty. For the first time the Fellowship will connect with Eastside Projects and develop, with curatorial support and options for events across the year, towards a solo exhibition with Eastside Projects in their Second Gallery space in September 2019.
In the second semester, which runs between January and May, you will work with a group of second year undergraduate students on a project negotiated between you and staff at the School. You will also give some tutorial support. Teaching will not exceed one day per week with no teaching commitment in the first semester.
The Fellowship lasts for 10 months, commencing in October 2018 and culminating in the Eastside Projects exhibition.
Previous Fellows include:
- Bridget O’Gorman
- Jonny Briggs
- John Wood and Paul Harrison
- Kathrin Böhm
Closing date Monday 16 July at 17:00 2018
Interviews will take place on Monday 30 July 2018
You must submit (in a zipped file):
- Your CV
- A 500 word statement on what you would like to work on with our students and how it relates to your practice and the exhibition at Eastside Projects
- A PDF of recent work that can include links to media files
Please send your application to Stuart Whipps by Monday 16 July deadline. We regret that due to the volume of applications we cannot give feedback.
