Hundreds of prospective students are set to benefit at Birmingham City University, as the institution announces an investment of over £1 million in a new grants and scholarships initiative.

The new scheme will have its official launch at Birmingham City University’s Open Day on Saturday 14 November, where all those attending will also get a chance to have their £9,000 first year of tuition fees paid.

The grants and scholarships scheme will mean that undergraduate students starting in September 2016 can receive up to £4,000 in non-repayable awards.

The grants of £1,000 are available to students studying at one the University’s 30 partner schools and colleges across the West Midlands, and who live in households with an income of under £25,000. The £3,000 scholarships are open to high achieving students from across the country.

The winner of the £9,000 windfall for their Birmingham City University tuition fee will be drawn randomly from all those attending Saturday’s Open Day, offering a perfect start to one lucky person’s higher education experience.

"We want as many people as possible to come to our Open Day on Saturday so they can find out how higher education can transform their lives. To encourage potential students to find out more we are also offering an award of a year’s free tuition, worth £9,000, which could go to any one of those attending the event – a great incentive to come along to what promises to be a superb day of activity."
