Success for design students at prestigious national packaging awards

Product Design - Tesse Light

A group of six students from Birmingham School of Architecture and Design won awards at the prestigious national StarPack Student Design Awards 2016, recognising innovation in packaging design and technology.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 29 June at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining headquarters in London. 

Eight Level 4 students entered the competition specifically attempting Brief C, entitled ‘Board of other materials? Try using corrugated.’, which was sponsored by UK leading packaging company DS Smith. Six out of the eight individuals were recognised with awards spanning from Silver Stars, Bronze Stars and Commendations. 

Award winners

The following list highlights the students that were awarded prizes: 

  • Jodie Mairs (Furniture and Lifestyle Products) – Pet Pods – Silver Star

  • Glen Powis (Product Design) – Tesselight – Silver Star

  • Adam Mahukum (Furniture and Lifestyle Products) – Portable Keyboard Stand – Bronze Star

  • Joshua Sharp (Furniture and Lifestyle Products) – Stationary Organiser Packaging – Bronze Star

  • Scott Ridgway (Furniture and Lifestyle Products) – Corrugated Laptop Case – Commended

  • Kalandra Mcfarquhar (3D Designer Maker) – Unfold Lamp – Commended
