Traditional manhole covers and drainage beneath your feet may well receive a makeover, as MA Product Design and MA Design and Visualisation students aim to develop its design and functionality, as part of a joint collaboration project.
The students have joined forces with leading supplier of pipelines, cover and drainage solutions,Saint-Gobain PAM UK for the project. They were tasked to come up with solutions to address design and functionality. They will explore how such products might help solve infrastructure challenges. This includes pollution, flooding or increasing population density - which could result in water supply or traffic management problems.
Commenting on the collaboration, Mark Esling from Saint-Gobain PAM said:
The project will run as part of the students’ Master's degree and as a competition with the winner receiving a £1,000 prize. Students will also have the opportunity to see their design developed as a prototype.
