Birmingham School of Architecture and Design’s second year BA (Hons) Architecture student Siddharth Jain featured alongside three other aspiring architects on the latest Young People on Arts Board meeting.
The 19 year-old from New Delhi, India was enrolled onto the prestigious board meeting, which took place on October 8 and 9 at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, by Steve Ball, Associate Director of the REP, where representatives from Glenn Howells, Ikon Gallery and MAC were in attendance.
Ceasing the opportunity
From collaborating with Ikon Gallery artists Ben Sadler and Philip Duckworth within the Punch Records Millennium Point residency ‘Gallery 37’, the opportunity arose to participate within a workshop, where Siddharth gave a sales pitch on why young people should be given a place on the Board alongside his formal application and 24 hour design challenge. Siddharth said:
As a result of the meeting, Siddharth is now set to work with The Library of Birmingham as a Photoshop mentor for 8-16 year-olds as part of the Priority Five training programme.
An industry focus
The support from academics and the emphasis on working within the industry at Birmingham School of Architecture and Design has encouraged these additional projects. Siddharth added:
“My academic tutors were brilliant in terms of encouraging me to do well in my University work and projects. They have always supported me with all the help I needed and encouraged me to do better.
“I am really happy with my chosen field of study. It has provided me with a wealth of skills and knowledge on how buildings and spaces work in relation to people and environment.”
