Carley Lightfoot is a Lecturer in Law, specialising in Animal Law. Carley joined BCU in April 2023, having previously worked at the University of Leicester, the University of Nottingham and De Montfort University. She has taught a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including Social Justice, Criminal Law, Tort Law and Medical Law.

Carley’s main research interests are in the area of Animal Law, and she is close to the completion of her PhD, it being the first Modern Law Review sponsored PhD in Animal Law. Her thesis considers animal experimentation in the UK, delving into both the practical implementation of the legislation and the complex ethical considerations surrounding this issue.
