After twenty years of working in the Jewellery and Gemstone industry and studying for numerous trade qualifications, Michelle graduated from the School of Jewellery with a First-class BSc (Hons) in Gemmology and Jewellery studies in 2015.

Michelle began teaching at Birmingham City University as a Visiting Lecturer in 2015 and then full-time in 2019. Her subjects include Valuation science, Diamond grading, Gemmology, Advanced spectroscopy, Industry Studies, and Photomicrography. Michelle also works with School and College pupils providing taster Gemmology sessions and careers advice.

Michelle’s other educational roles have been with the National Association of Jewellers and Gem-A.
Prior to entering education Michelle opened and managed an up-market Jewellery boutique. As well as developing a unique brand image and reputation, the role also included selecting and purchasing loose diamonds and gemstones that were set into distinctive jewellery designs.
