Paying your tuition fees as an overseas student

Before you enrol

If you are a new overseas student, your tuition fee and the amount you need to pay will be stated in the letter we send offering you a place at Birmingham City University.

Students from Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

If you are a new overseas student to the University and are applying from Bangladesh, Ghana, India, Iran, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and you have been granted an unconditional offer, then you will need to pay an application deposit of £1,000 to secure your place.

Once you have passed your pre-CAS interview and uploaded all your CAS essential documents, you need to pay the FULL 50% of your gross tuition fees (minus your initial deposit of £1,000) to receive your Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter and meet the financial requirements of the enrolment process.

Students from all other regions

If you are a new overseas student from any other country, you must pay 50% of your gross tuition fees to secure your place. Once you have uploaded all your essential documents, you will receive your Confirmation of Acceptance of studies (CAS) letter and meet the financial requirements of our enrolment process.

After you have enrolled (applicable to students from all regions)

Once you have enrolled at BCU, you will need to pay the remaining balance of your tuition fees. You can do this in a number of ways:

1. Pay in full, within ten weeks of your course starting.

2. Set up an instalment plan, where the University will collect the payments from your bank and spread the cost over three instalments, on the following pre-set dates in each term.

For September:

  • 1 December 2025
  • 2 February 2026
  • 5 May 2026

For January:

  • 30 March 2026
  • 30 June 2026
  • 28 August 2026

3. Pay your remaining fees in flexible instalments. If you start your studies in September, this will mean you will need to have paid your tuition fees in full by the start of the following May, and for January by the start of September. If you choose this option, you will still need to pay a proportion of your total tuition fee by specific dates in each academic year. Having already paid 50%, you now need to pay:

  • At least 10% of your course tuition fee must be paid in the first semester, by the date specified for that academic year (60% of your gross tuition fee)
  • A further 20% must be paid by the start of the second semester, by the date specified (80% of your gross tuition fee)
  • The remaining 20% must be paid by the start of the third semester, by the date specified.

In all cases, you will need to make a payment towards your tuition fees within 10 weeks of your course starting. If a payment is not received, a block will be applied to your student account. If you have still not made a payment after nine weeks, you will be removed from your course.
