Shuyin is a Lecturer in Civil Engineering at the Department of Built Environment. She received her PhD and MSc by research in Civil Engineering from the University of Bristol, UK in 2022 and 2017, respectively.

Her research has been focused on the hydraulic conductivity behavior of soil and pavement construction materials, and the freeze-thaw effects on soil. She has published research findings in leading academic journals in the field (e.g., Géotechnique), delivered presentations at international conferences, guest lectured at overseas research institutes, and been invited to be a journal paper reviewer. She is currently serving as an editorial board member for ICE – Geotechnical Engineering.

She joined Birmingham City University in October 2022. She is a member of the British Geotechnical Association and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.
