Birmingham City University

“I chose to study at Birmingham City University because I liked the fact that there was a range of facilities for students, such as the Windows and Apple Mac computers and the library which has a range of books for every course. The student study area is somewhere I like to study and revise for my exams as you’re able to sit with your friends in groups. I think this is a better way of learning as you’re surrounded by people with different knowledge and are able to learn from them.

“I applied for this course because it had a variety of different subjects which enables you as a student to learn a bit about every aspect of the course. In addition, I thought it would be interesting to see what and learn what studying about the business side of IT is like.

“I liked the fact that the course had different aspects to it such as networking, programming, Business Intelligence and databases. As there are so many different modules, I’ve found it interesting to learn a bit about everything, so it insures me as a student in terms of what career path I want to go on. You get to understand how IT works within a business which I find interesting. The staff are really helpful when it comes down to coursework and exams. If I ever need any help they are always there to support me and will give me guidance on how to solve my problems.

“My placement role at Domino’s is an IT Business Analyst (Intern) where I carry out work for the marketing department, and I’ve also worked with the Business Intelligence department. My placement had to be IT-related, but I didn’t want to apply for purely IT companies, as I wanted to learn about how IT works within business. Working for Domino’s has been great fun and I’ve had the most amazing time there. Everybody is so friendly and I’ve made lots of new friends. I’ve been working with a few different departments and have learned lots of skills. I found that doing a bit of everything is interesting as I have got to see what the different departments do.

“I also work as a student ambassador representing my University by providing support for staff at open days and other corporate events, and talking to future students about my personal experiences of applying, living and studying at Birmingham City University. In addition I work as a Student Buddy where I help new students settle into the University.

“My plans and ambitions for the future are to finish my placement at Domino’s and graduate from my final year with a First. After this I plan to either do a Master’s in Business Intelligence or go straight into a graduate job.”
