Professor Junaid Arshad
Junaid Arshad is a Professor of Cyber Security at the Birmingham City University. He has extensive research experience and expertise in investigating and addressing cybersecurity challenges for diverse computing paradigms such as Grid computing, Cloud computing, IoT, and blockchains. Junaid has successfully led collaborative endeavors to identify and develop research directions and conducted systematic programmes to achieve research objectives. Junaid has been included in the 2022 & 2023 world’s top 2% CS researchers (Stanford Uni) and word’s top 0.5% CS researchers over the last 5 years (ScholarGPS, 2025).
Junaid has strong experience of developing bespoke digital solutions to meet industry needs. He has extensive experience of applying machine learning and AI algorithms to develop bespoke models to address specific requirements. Further, he is actively engaged in R&D within trustworthy AI to identify potential vulnerabilities within existing models and algorithms and measures to improve their resilience against cyber-attacks.
Leading the BCU team for the Innovate UK & WMCA funded West Midlands Health Tech Accelerator (WMHTIA) project, Junaid has been closely working with 20+ SMEs within the healthcare ecosystem. Through this project, Junaid has gained valuable experience of supporting Healthtech SMEs with their individual technology roadmaps taking into account diverse requirements and varying TRLs.
Junaid is an alumnus of the Innovate UK & DCMS funded CyberASAP programme, commercially prototyping the CyMonD system for effective monitoring & defence of IoT-based systems against cyber-threats. Junaid has been successful in achieving funding to support his R&D and has contributed to ~£20M+ externally funded projects.
Junaid has successfully published 90+ articles at high quality venues including journals, book chapters, conferences and workshops. He is regularly involved in different academic and enterprise events to contribute as an expert voice in cybersecurity.
