Students who applied via social media

Clearing is nerve-wracking, we get it. When the phones are busy and you’re too worked up to face speaking to anyone, we’ve got your back by offering places over Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If anyone knows Clearing stress it's Luke, who was at work during Clearing! Find out how applying through social media helped him.

In 2017 over 400 students contacted us on social media about a Clearing place and we made offers to over 50 of them. We’ve even won three national awards for helping you guys out in a creative way during this stressful period.

So to help you plan your options for this A Level Result’s Day, three students who got their place on social media  have shared their story:

Sam Kennedy (Marketing, Advertising and PR)

“I applied through Clearing as my results were worse than I expected. I was very stressed on results day, and social media was the perfect solution to calm me down. Finding the University’s message, I got in touch and felt very relaxed. The staff member was welcoming and reassured me that my results were good, even though they weren't as good as I had hoped.

“I remember how overcome with relief I was. I was so worried about having to take a gap year, or find work, and it came down to something as simple as a brief chat with a university staff member on Facebook. I'm so thankful that my University has a service like this.

"I wasn’t sure if I wanted to return to education, but once I realised I did I had to apply through Clearing. I saw a tweet posted by the University about making offers on social media, and originally thought it was a joke but I was so happy that it wasn’t.

“My advice to those considering going through Clearing is to do it, as it’s easy as 1, 2, 3 – I replied to a tweet, sent my phone number in a DM, and got a phone call confirming my results and offering me a place!”
