Ross Hughes

Ross took a year out before starting university to decide what he wanted to study. During the gap-year, Ross travelled to Australia where he developed a passion for music. After visiting the university for an Open Day, Ross decided to apply to the School of Media through Clearing.

"The entire Clearing process at Birmingham City University is very straightforward, any information you need to know will be emailed to you and the University do a great job of keeping you informed."

"I was supported very well by the University through the clearing process and they ensured I understood each step of the way. I received a package outlining what my course would include and key dates I would need to be in Birmingham, such as moving in date and Welcome Week."

I immediately saw the potential for myself

"I started the year with a personal goal of learning the fundamentals of DJ mixing. Playing a live set at one of my favourite venues in Birmingham is something that I am proud of and won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

"I would never have expected in just one year to have started my DJ’ing career, made a radio documentary, recorded my own live radio show, filmed and starred in a TV show and be planning a summer of work experience.

"I have an internship planned this summer with a record label in Birmingham, in which I will nurture both my DJ mixing techniques as well as my music production skills."

"I hope that someday I will be broadcasting my own radio show and still be lucky enough to be playing DJ sets at venues across the country."
