Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Usman Rana is a Senior Lecturer in Finance and heads the Business Finance programme at Birmingham City University. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK and holds a PhD in Finance from Birmingham City University, focusing on the functioning of the global precious metals market.
He has published his research in a prestigious journal, International Review of Financial Analysis, and has presented his findings at international conferences and seminars. He is also a Research Development member of the Centre for Applied Finance and Economics (CAFE) at Birmingham City University and seminar convenor for the upcoming working paper series.
With over nine years of academic and professional experience in finance, he has developed strong analytical and business skills that he applies to his teaching and research. Before joining Birmingham City University, Dr. Rana worked as a Financial Analyst for S&P Global, where he gained valuable insights into the practical and policy aspects of financial markets.
In addition to his work at BCU, he serves as a Senior Policy Advisor on Fiscal Policy and Monetary Strategy at Pakistan’s independent policy think tank Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). His role at SDPI is to advise innovative fiscal, monetary, and financial policy solutions to the government of Pakistan to build more robust policies and institutions that foster inclusive growth.
He also speaks as an expert in the area of the economics and finance of precious metals, climate finance, economic recovery, and sustainable development at international conferences such as the 6th International Conference on Business and Finance in 2023 at the University of Cambridge and the Young Leaders Convention in Turkey. He regularly writes for newspapers such as Dawn, The News, and The Express Tribune on current issues in economics and international finance.
