Magnesium Symposium 2018

Magnesium is one of the lightest structural metals in the world; up to around 70 percent lighter than steel and between 30-50 percent lighter than aluminium. It’s the eighth most abundant material in the world, has great heat dissipation properties, 100 percent recyclable and a fire-retardant material.  It has excellent noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) properties too. However, despite all of these amazing properties, Magnesium is a widely misunderstood material.

In order to spur a greater understanding of magnesium and its importance to the transport sector, Birmingham City University believe it’s vital that we start to re-educate those with misconceptions to bring it back into the spotlight.

We are currently working alongside several partners, including Meridian Lightweight Technologies UK and The International Magnesium Association to achieve this.

Whether you missed the 2018 Symposium or are an attendee eager to recap on the day, you can find all of the presentations from the day below.
