Dr Andy Lim is an Associate Professor and Course Leader for BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering at Birmingham City University (BCU). He has extensive academic and research experience across civil and structural engineering disciplines, underpinned by a strong background in computational mechanics.

Before joining BCU, Dr Lim worked as a Research Officer on the Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies (ASTUTE) project in the College of Engineering at Swansea University, where he provided research-led technical support to industrial, commercial, and public sector organisations across Wales. His work involved applying advanced engineering and computational methods to address complex manufacturing challenges. He also held previous academic appointments as a Teaching Associate and Lecturer at London South Bank University.

Dr Lim’s research interests encompass Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Computational Structural Dynamics, and multi-physics Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI). His doctoral research focused on the development and application of partitioned FSI methods, exploring both strong and weak coupling systems in one- and two-way configurations. This work contributes to advancing the understanding of the dynamic behaviour of offshore and coastal structures subjected to high fluid flow impacts.
