Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer with 25 years experience of teaching and digital production. My main interest lies in the freelance marketplace within the UK Film and High-End Television Industry, and I have recently completed doctoral studies exploring how the adoption of technology through digital transformation impacts on the learning experiences of technical craft learner-practitioners.

Expertise

Although I have experience in all areas of production (I have been executive producer on over 100 short films). My main area of expertise, however, is in the field of cinematography. I started my career as an engineer, and this has helped with my understanding of the technical requirements of the role of cinematographer. I have worked internationally as an ENG cameraman, worked on documentaries and feature length films, where I have been nominated and won awards for these.

Industry connections

I have a number of industry connections, who work on a range of productions from High-End television to theatrical release features (such as Mission Impossible). More recently, these connections are some of the students I have taught over the years and this is very rewarding. To see my former students forge their own careers make the job worthwhile.

Former students

My students have gone on to do a wide range of roles in the UK film and television industry. They have worked in the camera department (Help, No Time to Die), the sound department (Napoleon), the producer’s department (Mission Impossible, Slow Horses, Gladiator II) and director’s department (Hijack).
