Our policy, standards and objectives
Birmingham City University is committed to protect and manage its environmental impacts through an Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to the ISO 14001 standard. An EMS is the management of environmental programmes in a systematic, planned and documented matter, encouraging continual improvement. The EMS scope covers all activities, products and services across the entire institution.
As part of the EMS, we conduct regular internal audits, have annual external audits and an annual mid-year peer-review audit conducted by another university, to ensure that we continue to improve our environmental performance. On the 20 September 2019, Birmingham City University declared a Climate Emergency.
