The Future Founders Fund helped Victor bring his vision to life. Inspired by the everyday challenges faced by his visually impaired grandmother, Victor Shedu created VisionX, a solution focused business idea that centres on using technology to support visually impaired individuals. Vision X improves real‑time navigation and spatial awareness, helping users move through their environments with independence and confidence.
Victor explains, “VisionX specifically aims to address a key gap; moving beyond simply recognising surroundings to actually navigating them safely and independently. While tools such as canes and guide dogs remain essential, there is a clear opportunity to enhance mobility through intelligent, real-time guidance that supports safer and more independent movement in everyday environments, that’s where VisionX comes in”.
The Future Founders Fund has given Victor the space to gain insight into validating assumptions, develop a clear value proposition, and align ideas with real market demand. Victor explains: “Through participating in the Future Founders Fund, one of the most valuable takeaways was learning how to think beyond just the idea itself. I’ve learnt the importance of building something that is scalable and sustainable, not just innovative”.
Victor reflects on how Birmingham City University has also played an important role in building confidence as a founder. “BCU has created an environment where innovation is genuinely encouraged. Through initiatives like the Future Founders Fund, I’ve not only been able to strengthen my idea but also the ability to communicate it effectively.”
He acknowledges how access to mentorship, workshops and networking opportunities has further shaped his journey. “Being able to connect with other founders and experienced professionals has helped me refine both my idea and my approach. These experiences have helped position VisionX for future growth.”
Looking ahead, continued support from BCU and the Future Founders Fund will be key in taking VisionX to the next stage. With access to resources, mentorship, and spaces like STEAMhouse, the ambition is clear. “The goal is to move from early-stage development to building something that has real-world impact,” they conclude.
Victor’s story highlights how active participation in the Founders Futures Fund and entrepreneurial initiatives at BCU play a key role in preparing aspiring entrepreneurs to solve real-world problems and contribute to economic growth in Birmingham and beyond.
