Course Leader
Welcome Message
I am delighted to welcome you to the BSc (Hons) Finance and Investment course. We are looking forward to welcoming you and helping you settle into the department, your course, and your new environment.
Induction is an essential part of your first steps at University. We want you to feel part of our community, get to know the course team, and make friends with others on your course. Please make sure that you get involved with all the activities that will take place during Welcome Week and in the following weeks and months on your course.
As soon as you enrol, you will be able to access our virtual learning environment, Moodle. Please log onto this and take part in the activities that are there to help you get off to a flying start on your course and get to know your course colleagues before you arrive on campus. Remember, everyone is in the same boat, and many people are available to support you! We are all extremely friendly, and you will quickly become a part of the BCU family.
Your ""Personal Tutor"" is a pivotal person to get to know in the first few weeks, as they can help with any queries, worries, or concerns. Their role is to offer academic advice and guidance throughout your time at University, so you will want to get to know them quickly.
Finally, I would like to wish you the best of luck at the start of your course. You are now a part of the Accounting, Finance, and Economics academic community, and we look forward to working in partnership with you to help you succeed.
Course Location
Your course will mainly be taught in:
Curzon Building, City Centre Campus (Room numbers start with C)
Supporting your transition
During Welcome Week, you’ll get to meet our Student Ambassadors as soon as you walk onto campus. They’ll be there to support you with finding your Student Support Centre, collecting your ID card and guiding you in the right direction, and for a friendly hello!
First day on Campus
We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!
You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.
To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:
- Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
- Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
- Visa (international students only)
What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:
- Laptop, if you have one
- Notepad and pen
- Reusable water bottle
- Snack
- Money
And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
