Welcome Message

Dear New BA Architecture students,

Welcome to Birmingham City University.

Welcome to an exciting chapter of your academic journey! We are thrilled to have you join our program, and we want to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. This first year is filled with exciting challenges (and it will fly by very quickly) so don’t waste any time in getting to know your teaching team, your personal tutors, and your fellow course mates, and make sure you engage with all the wonderful activities during Welcome Week.

During Welcome Week, you will have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the dynamic environment of our department, meet your fellow classmates, and get to know the dedicated course members who will guide you throughout your studies. It is a crucial period to connect, collaborate, and build the foundation for a successful academic and personal journey, so please make sure you are here for it all!

We would also like to emphasise the importance of accessing Moodle, our online learning platform. Moodle will serve as your central hub for accessing course materials, submitting assignments, engaging in discussions, and staying up to date with important announcements. It is an invaluable resource that will keep you informed and connected to the course curriculum and your peers. As soon as you enrol you will be able to access Moodle so, please do log onto this and take part in the activities that are there to help you get off to a flying start on your course.

Finally, there are three vital skills that will help you get the most out of your degree: communication, perseverance, and empathy. So, remember, you are learning how to design to help other people: you’re not alone; it will be hard work; and you will enjoy it!

The whole staff team looks forward to meeting you soon!

Best regards,
From the BA Architecture staff

Preparing for Welcome Week

Before you arrive on campus, please take a look at your course Moodle page where you will find lots of useful information to prepare you for Welcome Week, including your required pre-arrival activity.

Supporting your transition

During Welcome Week, you’ll get to meet our Student Ambassadors as soon as you walk onto campus. They’ll be there to support you with finding your Student Support Centre, collecting your ID card and guiding you in the right direction, and for a friendly hello!

First day on Campus

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

  • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
  • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
  • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
