    Welcome Message

I am delighted to welcome you to RBC and to our BA Acting course. May I take this opportunity to congratulate you on achieving a place with us. You are about to embark on the exciting journey of actor training with us and we’re looking forward to welcoming you, getting to know you and helping you to settle into the University, your course and your new environment.

Your first day, Monday the 14th September, is an exciting one as we bring together your acting cohort for the first time. We recognise that your first day may feel a little daunting but remember we are here to help you settle in as you get to know everyone and get to you know your way around. Induction week is a great opportunity for you to find your feet, meet your tutors and settle in before teaching begins on Monday 21st September.

Please remember to bring a pen, notepad, diary and a water bottle with you in the first week. In addition to this welcome note, we will send you a “kit list” which details everything that you need to purchase for your training and includes information about the school’s black uniform (‘blacks’). When you meet our staff, they may well give further guidance about their expectations for their classes.

Ahead of your arrival, we would like you to prepare a monologue which you will present in front of your fellow classmates and tutors during the first week. This monologue can be one previously used when auditioning. It is important that the monologue is from a published play and it should take no longer than 2 to 3 minutes to deliver. Remember that this is the first time that many of your tutors will have seen and heard you in action, so do take time with your preparation. We look forward to seeing you at the introductory welcome from Stephen Maddock, our Principal, on Monday 14 September 2026 at 10am in the Bradshaw Hall.

Best wishes Bryn [Course Director BA Acting]

We look forward to welcoming you to Birmingham City University!

You must have your ID card visible at all times when on campus, so if you have received yours before your first day, ensure you bring this with you. If you enrolled late you will need to collect one on campus during your first few days. Please remember that your ID card is for your use only. You must never let anyone else use it.

To complete your enrolment, you will need the following:

    • Passport (or other form of photo ID if you are a UK/EU student)
    • Original qualification documents if applicable (you will be emailed a list of the documents we need to see once you have completed your online enrolment)
    • Visa (international students only)

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:
