Induction is a really important part of your first steps at University. We want you to feel part of our community, get to know the course, the course team and your peers. The activities that take place are relevant to your course and your development so please make sure that you get involved with all the activities that will take place during Welcome Week and in the following weeks and months on your course.

Prior to our on-campus induction we will be running an online session on Microsoft Teams. Please check your emails regularly as we will be sending important information about how to join our Teams meeting together with other activities you can do prior to Welcome week to help you get off to a flying start on your course and get to know your course colleagues before you arrive on campus. We're all very friendly and you'll soon settle in very quickly. Remember, everyone is in the same boat and there are lots of people available to support you!

Your Personal Tutor is a key person to get to know in the first few weeks, as they can help with any queries, worries or concerns. Their role is to offer academic advice and guidance throughout your time at university, so you will want to get to know them quickly and to facilitate this, your personal tutor will be heavily involved in the Welcome Week activities. In addition we have a fantastic team of Accounting Student Mentors who will be able to guide you during Welcome Week and offer advice on the wider university experience.

Finally, I'd like to wish you the best of luck for the start of your course. You are now a part of the Accounting & Finance course and the Business School academic community and we look forward to working in partnership with you to help you succeed.

What else? The rest is up to you! You will find a shop, café, pub, computer access and water fountains on campus, but we do recommend you bring the following on the first day:

  • Laptop, if you have one
  • Notepad and pen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Snack
  • Money

And remember, the weather in Birmingham can be changeable!
