The Henderson Scholarship provides 15 outstanding students each year with a scholarship worth £10,000, covering the full cost of their undergraduate tuition fees.
The Henderson Scholarship supports talented students who have the potential to succeed but may face financial barriers that prevent them from accessing university. By covering tuition fees, it gives scholars the freedom to focus on their studies, develop their skills and make the most of opportunities that can help them build a successful career in technology.
Successful scholars receive £10,000 towards their tuition fees, helping to reduce the financial burden of studying at university, as well as exclusive access to dedicated support and opportunities to support their development.
Who can apply
To be considered for a Henderson Scholarship you must:

Apply for an eligible degree at Birmingham City University

Hold predicted or achieved qualifications equivalent to of 144 tariff points or above

Be domiciled in the UK and classified as a Home student

Have a home address that falls into POLAR4 Quintile 1 or 2

Come from a household with an annual income of £25,000 or less

Priority consideration
The Henderson Programme aims to increase access to higher education and support greater diversity within the technology sector.
Alongside the eligibility criteria above, priority consideration may be given to students from groups that are currently under-represented in technology and related industries, including:
- Women
- Students from ethnically diverse backgrounds
- First-generation university students
- Care-experienced students and care leavers
- Students with physical or mental health disabilities
How to apply
There is no separate application form to apply for the Henderson Scholarship.
Students who meet the academic and eligibility criteria will automatically be considered and invited to complete a short questionnaire that helps us understand more about their circumstances, achievements and financial need.
The application process:

Step 1:
Apply for an eligible course by 13 January 2027.

Step 2:
Receive an offer from Birmingham City University.

Step 3:
Eligible applicants will be contacted by the Henderson Programme by 1 March 2027 and invited to complete a short questionnaire outlining their circumstances and financial need.

Step 4:
Applications will be reviewed by the Henderson Programme team. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person interview between 22 March and 16 April 2027.

Step 5:
All interviewed candidates will receive an outcome by May 2027.

Step 6:
Successful applicants who are awaiting results in May will receive a conditional scholarship offer. Following confirmation of results on 12 August 2027, successful students who meet the academic requirements will receive a formal scholarship award.
How can I prepare?
If you meet the eligibility criteria, we encourage you to regularly check your email from 1 March 2027 onwards for communication from the Henderson Programme team.
The questionnaire is an opportunity to tell us more about your achievements, aspirations and personal circumstances. You will also have the option to provide supporting evidence relating to your financial circumstances if appropriate.
When completing the questionnaire, we encourage you to reflect on:
- Your educational journey and achievements
- Any barriers or challenges you have overcome
- How financial support would help you succeed at university
- Your future ambitions and career goals
Financial evidence may include screenshots or documents such as:
- Student Finance entitlement letters
- Free School Meals evidence
- Benefit award letters
- Care experienced or estranged student confirmation
- Disability support documentation
- Other evidence relating to your circumstances

In addition to £10,000 to cover tuition fees, Henderson Scholars receive an opportunity to network with peers in an exclusive collaborative environment.
Scholars also have access to: tailored support throughout your time at university; networking opportunities with industry professionals; access to the Henderson Scholar community; access to STEAM and career development opportunities.
