Atiya has taught health psychology for several years across a number of different modules at undergraduate and post-graduate level and had a leading role in developing the BPS accredited MSc Health Psychology programme at Birmingham City University.

Atiya’s research explores the experience of caring for people with dementia, treatment and prevention of childhood obesity, and living with chronic conditions.

Atiya leads the Health and Wellbeing research cluster and works closely with the department and faculty Directors of Research to promote a collaborative research environment. Atiya is a member of the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team for the School of Social Sciences.
