Lecturer in Criminology / Assistant Professor

Joe joined BCU in September 2020 having previously worked at Maynooth University (Ireland) and the University of Winchester (UK). He holds a PhD in Criminology from University College Dublin for his study examining the occupational cultures and identities of prison officers in Ireland.

Reflecting his academic background in Anthropology, Sociology and Criminology, Joe’s research is multidisciplinary and collaborative while employing diverse research methodologies. Though a specialist in penology, his research and work address broad issues, lived experiences and policy across the fields of criminal justice and beyond. Joe’s work has featured in diverse mediums including peer-reviewed journals and national broadcasters.
