Veronica Barry

Veronica is working on the relationship between spatial planning, food policy and health & wellbeing. She has studied the Black Country boroughs of Dudley and Sandwell, and neighbouring Solihull, in detail and is exploring food planning as a system, rather than the previous dominant focus on individual projects. Projects are ephemeral, often spurred by particular individuals and fading when they leave: but the need for food security is permanent.

Almabrok is studying urban design and conservation in the historic core of Tripoli, Libya. Political, social and legislative changes have led to the abandonment, decay and destruction of numerous buildings in this ancient city, and consideration of its better management is overdue.

Marina is exploring how landscape approaches inform urban landscape planning and design and vice versa, particularly in the context of the New Urban Agenda and the delivery of sustainable development agendas.

Tim’s PhD research focuses on post-war high-rise housing, particularly in Birmingham, linking with Peter Larkham’s work on post-war reconstruction. His work in local and national archives has revealed new insights into the use of system building, and the previously-underemphasised role of municipal architects in designing and managing these projects.
