Marie is a children’s nurse by background and studied in Birmingham with much of her initial nurse roles at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH). Subsequently she has worked internationally in Australia, Trinidad, Malawi, Afghanistan and New Zealand. 

Marie's work to date both clinically and academically has focused on children with high dependency needs, pain assessment and treatment with a focus on cultural aspects to care. She started her lecturing career at the University of Wolverhampton in 2010 teaching on undergraduate nursing programmes. Subsequently she has also lectured at the University of Birmingham before commencing her post at BCU in November 2019.

Alongside her teaching roles Marie has continued to work clinically in bank roles at BCH, Acorns Children’s Hospice and The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. Marie's PhD is part time and commenced in 2016 and focuses on revealing the voices of marginalised asylum seeker and refugee families as they navigate children’s palliative care services.
