Katherine qualified as a Children’s nurse in 2003 and spent the next 5 years rotating between several specialties including general paediatrics, planned surgery, adolescent and neonatal care and emergency medicine. She then went on to train as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Having gained a vast array of clinical experience in her role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-medical Prescriber, she took up the position of Senior Lecturer at BCU in order to further her career and contribute to the learning and development of a future Advanced Practice workforce.

Outside of work Katherine is a member of the Birmingham Safeguarding Children’s Board practitioner forum where practitioners come together to work towards improving child and family welfare. She is a member of the Association of Paediatric Emergency Medicine, meeting quarterly to network, educate, support and share developments within advanced nursing practice in paediatric emergency services.

In her spare time Katherine swims regularly and also has a voluntary job as a care assistant at a Cats’ Protection adoption centre.
