Carole Gelder

Carole Gelder has a dual role as a Senior Lecturer in CYP diabetes at BCU and a CYP diabetes nurse specialist/ clinical educator role in Leeds. Carole’s nursing career started in London training as a General nurse then specialising in CYP at Great Ormond Street Hospital before returning home to Yorkshire.

Carole previously worked at the University of York and collaboratively developed a range of modules with the Leeds CYP diabetes team and ultimately co leading a range of leading edge highly specialist modules including CYP Diabetes, Insulin Pump Therapy, Advancing technologies as well as a module focussed on Transition, paediatrics to adults services extending beyond diabetes.

Carole currently collaborates with colleagues nationally including Birmingham Children’s Hospital, University College Hospital, London and Leeds Children’s Hospital.

She is currently part of the NICE diabetes guideline update steering group, and draws on her clinical experience along with national and international evidence to continuously develop academic careers and clinical practice to improve and optimise outcomes for CYP with diabetes.

Carole has published in a range of journals including those of high impact such as “Evidence Based Nursing” and “Paediatric Diabetes”. She is also on the editorial board of journals in CYP diabetes and regularly peer reviews submissions.
