Gary Poulton, semi finalist in the most recent series of ‘The Apprentice’, is set to open the StartUp 2016 event on January 16 at Birmingham City University. StartUp 2016 will offer advice for budding entrepreneurs from across the region who are looking to get their business off the ground in 2016.
StartUp 2016 is run by small business network Enterprise Nation and is one of a series of satellite gatherings offering start-up help across the UK.
Held in Birmingham City University’s new £63 million Curzon Building, attendees will also hear from successful entrepreneurs including Ammo Talwar MBE, founder of Punch Records, Rosie Ginday, founder of Miss Macaroon and Robert Hallmark, founder of city-based fragrance brand, Gruhme.
"Birmingham City University already connects entrepreneurs and SMEs with our academic experts and industry partners, helping businesses realise their strategic and funding objectives. Furthermore, we launched a new business growth service - BCU Advantage - last year, making us a natural fit to host StartUp 2016 here in the city."
Enterprise Nation has more than 60,000 members and aims to help people turn their good ideas into great businesses through expert advice, publications and events such as StartUp2016.
Enterprise Nation’s Birmingham champion Debbie Assinder, said: "Every minute a business is started in Britain. Becoming your own boss can be satisfying and rewarding on so many levels. Last year more than half a million new companies were registered.
"This event is aimed at helping those in the West Midlands with dreams of starting up to pick up practical advice, link up with like-minded individuals, get inspiration to help them give their new business the very best start. We are grateful to Birmingham City University for their wide ranging support helping bring this event to the city for the first time."
